Justin Craft is IN! A champion for the return of Blazer football, anyone will tell you that Justin is as ever faithful and ever loyal as it gets. Justin got his BS degree in Business in 1997 after patrolling the secondary as a defensive back for the UAB football team. Now he uses his degree to help people all across the country with their finances as president of Nowlin and Associates. You and Justin are in this together – From Here On IN.
Anita Clemon is IN! This former NAS President now serves as assistant vice president for Institutional Equity. Anita works every day to make our alma mater more accessible to all. Steve Mitchell is IN! This Blazer All-American’s jersey is retired in the rafters of Bartow Arena, and now he has a home in your new National Alumni Society as well. Steve uses the lessons he learned from Coach Gene Bartow as a student at UAB and passes that wisdom on to today’s youth as the athletic director at Altamont. As Blazers, we’ve always been proud of Steve – now we’re proud to have him as a part of our Alumni family, 150,000 strong.
The Craigs are IN—with seven degrees from UAB between them! Skip, Mark, Jennifer, and Emily take the meaning of UAB Family to an entirely different level. Skip earned his M.B.A. from UAB in 1990, and his son, Mark, earned a B.S. in Business in 2005 (while serving as president of Gang Green) and an M.B.A. in 2012. Emily earned her B.S. in Education in 2011 and an M.P.A. from UAB in 2015. Mark’s wife, Jennifer, earned her B.S. from the College of Arts and Sciences in 2009 and became the first Doctor Craig when she earner her O.D. from the School of Optometry in 2013. After a 32-year career in software, Tammi’s still ever faithful and ever loyal to the green and gold. Tyler Johnston is IN! Tyler stepped up to lead UAB Football at quarterback and clinched a Conference USA Championship and a victory in the Boca Raton Bowl in 2018. This redshirt junior is gearing up for another record-breaking season with the Blazers. Having earned his B.S. from the School of Health Professions in 2019, Tyler is entitled to free, automatic membership in the National Alumni Society. Your degree will do the same for you. Hafiz Chandiwala is IN! It doesn’t matter what your favorite fizzy drink is. If you’re a UAB alum, you’ve now got the same benefits as the executive vice president of Coca-Cola Bottling Company UNITED. As current president of the National Alumni Society, Hafiz and our board decided to open free, automatic membership up to every Blazer to make our Society as open, inclusive and diverse as our alma mater.
Janice Ward is IN! This former National Alumni Society president first turned her tassel at UAB in 1989. She’s been a fixture on campus ever since, currently serving as director of faculty affairs in the office of the Senior Vice Provost. Her son, Torrey, joined her as an alumnus in 2001. Judge Lee Tucker is IN! You’re in good company with this former National Alumni Society president and Walker County probate judge. As an active alum, this 1978 education grad has represented our Blazer family as an attorney and on the bench. Luke Brasher is IN! This redshirt senior from Pell City dominates on the football field and in the classroom. Luke saw action as a linebacker in all 14 games of UAB Football’s 2019 season. This Blazer athletics standout just graduated with a degree in kinesiology and is moving on to physical therapy school. Dr. Rodney Tucker is IN! Dr. Tucker is a widely published expert in the field of palliative care who has called UAB home for decades. He’s also an active alum, having served as National Alumni Society president in 1994. But you don’t have to lead your field as a physician like Rodney to enjoy everything the National Alumni Society has to offer. We’re opening membership in the NAS up to all Blazers.
