Janice Ward is IN! This former National Alumni Society president first turned her tassel at UAB in 1989. She’s been a fixture on campus ever since, currently serving as director of faculty affairs in the office of the Senior Vice Provost. Her son, Torrey, joined her as an alumnus in 2001. Greg is IN! Greg is the Assistant Director of the UAB Office of Alumni Affairs overseeing communications and governmental relations. A TV veteran, Greg spent 15 years covering sports, news, and administration. He is a 2020 graduate of UAB with a degree in communications management. A transplant to Birmingham from the Midwest, Greg has been working with the NAS for six years. His daughter, Lexi, is a current student in the UAB School of Education.
Christopher Mahan is IN! He concentrated in creative writing and earned both his B.A. and M.A. in English from UAB in 2004 and 2008, respectively.
Marie Sutton is IN! This accomplished UAB graduate earned her Master of Arts degree in English in 2017 and is the current director of marketing and communications for UAB Student Affairs. Marie is also an award-winning freelance writer, and author of the book “The A.G. Gaston Motel: A Civil Rights Landmark”.
Catherine Nicole Cross is IN! In 2020, Catherine Nicole Cross earned an M.A. in Sociology and a Certificate in Non-Profit Management from the College of Arts and Sciences.
Craig Hawkins is IN! Craig earned a B.S. in Psychology in 1991, a B.A. in English in 1993, and an M.A. in English in 2004.
Te’Quia Tompkins-Morton is IN! Te’Quia earned her Master of Arts degree in Communication Management in 2009.
Carol Anne Hopper is IN! Carol is a 2013 graduate of UAB with a bachelor’s degree in in sociology and social psychology. She went on to obtain a Master’s Degree in Public Administration. She now work-full time for UAB in the Department of Anesthesiology as a Program Manager 1, working with medical students rotating in anesthesia and assisting in didactic curriculum coordination for UAB Anesthesiology Residents. She is happily married my husband Chris, and they have two young children – Elijah and Lora Jane.
Susan Diane Mitchell is IN! Susan graduated from UAB in 2006 with an MA in English and American Literature.
William Bowlin is IN! Born and raised in the west side of Birmingham William attended Ensley High School. After four years in the Marine Corps, he completed his BA in History and was commissioned into the US Army. While stationed at Ft. McClellan, Alabama he completed his MA in History. Since retiring from active duty he has been a social studies teacher, and adjunct instructor for St. Philip’s College in San Antonio, Texas. He is married and has two sons.
