Virtual Infection Prevention Mini-Bootcamp for Alabama Long-Term Care Facilities

CEUs: The Deep South Center for OH&S is an approved provider of continuing education units for nurses by the AL Board of Nursing (Provider ABNP0420 Expiration Date 12/22/2025) and has awarded this program 3.0 nursing CEUs, .25 general CEUs, and 2.5 SW CEUs, each day.

The Board of Examiners of Nursing Home Administrators has reviewed and approved the seminar entitled “Mini IP Bootcamp for Alabama Long-Term Care” for 4 hours of continuing education credit for licensed nursing home administrators in the State of Alabama.

Cost: Free, but registration is limited to 300 participants.

Course Purpose: This course is aimed towards infection prevention and control healthcare professionals in the Long-Term Care Facility settings located in Alabama. The purpose of this course is to provide healthcare professionals in LTCFs with the knowledge and tools to run a competent and inclusive infection control program within their facility. The attendees will learn about the importance of hand hygiene, environmental services, enhanced barrier precautions, and preventing infections in wound management and laundry services.  

Course Objectives:

  • Describe the role of Infection Prevention and Control in Long-Term Care Settings 
  • Discuss the role of Standard and Transmission-based Precautions highlighting Enhanced Barrier Precautions
  • Discuss the impact of Multi-Drug Resistant Organisms (MDROs) in Long-Term Care Nursing Facilities and how Enhanced Barrier Precautions can be implemented to decrease the spread of MDROs
  • Discuss evidence-based practices that promote effective hand hygiene techniques for residents, including when and how to perform hand hygiene and the common barriers to compliance with hand hygiene protocols
  • Identify the role of preventing healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) through Environmental Surface Disinfection 
  • Identify effective wound care management practices to minimize the risk of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) in long-term care settings
  • Define respiratory illness prevention preparedness in the context of infection prevention and control readiness and response in long-term care settings
  • Identify the strategies for preventing the transmission of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) in healthcare laundry services in long-term care facilities
