About Us

The Alabama Nursing Home and Long Term Care Facility Strike Team and Infrastructure Project (Alabama Long-Term Care Strike Team) was established to assist long-term care facilities during their response to SARS-CoV-2 infections and to build and maintain the infection prevention infrastructure necessary to support resident and staff safety in these facilities throughout the state of Alabama.

LTC Strike Team is funded through a cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (6 NU50CK000545-03-02), Epidemiology and Laboratory Capacity for Infectious Diseases (ELC), for budget period 08/01/21 –07/31/2024.The program was authorized through the following Acts: Coronavirus Preparedness and Response Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2020 (P.L. 116-123); the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act, 2020 (the“CARES Act”) (P.L. 116-136); the Paycheck Protection Program and Health Care Enhancement Act (P.L. 116-139); the Consolidated Appropriations Act and the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplement Appropriations Act, 2021 (P.L. 116-260) and/or the AmericanRescue Plan of2021 (P.L. 117-2).

The Project is a collaborative effort of the Alabama Department of Public Health’s Bureau of Communicable Disease Infectious Diseases & Outbreaks Division, the University of Alabama at Birmingham, long-term care facility experts, and Infection Prevention and Control Specialists.

Our Infection Preventionists are located across the State of Alabama to serve nursing homes and long-term care facilities including in the State of Alabama. We serve:

  • Assisted Living Facilities
  • Specialty Care Assisted Living Facilities
  • Rehabilitation Centers
  • End State Renal Disease Treatment Centers
  • Long-Term Acute Care Hospitals

What we do

The Alabama LTC Strike Team offers several services to nursing homes and long-term care facilities in Alabama including:

  • Infection prevention and control consultations for COVID-19 preparedness
  • Training and technical assistance to assist facilities in building and maintaining their infection prevention infrastructure.
  • Consultations to facilities during COVID-19 outbreaks or cluster of infection investigations.
