Donna Reed Roose is IN! This retired teacher and grandmother of two earned her B.S. in education from the UAB School of Education in 1973. She is now an active member of her senior citizen community and enjoys spending time with her family and rescue dog.
Judy Hinton is IN! She earned her first degree in education in 1975 and her second in 1998. Emily then took her B.S. and MAE degrees from UAB and put them to work teaching the children of Alabama. She will start her 44th year in teaching this school year.
Tonya Grace is IN! She earned her B.S. degree in English in 2001. Since graduation, Tonya has moved to Atlanta and founded the Atlanta Filmmakers Alliance and the B4B Initiative. She is now a writer, speaker, philanthropist, and educator in Georgia.
Abbey Taylor is IN! She gained her bachelor’s degree in early childhood and elementary education in 2017. Since graduating from UAB, she has used her knowledge and skills to teach at the elementary level in Vestavia.
Danielle Foster is IN! After earning her bachelor’s degree in respiratory therapy in 2013, she continued her education and earned her master’s degree in community health in 2020. Danielle is a current registered respiratory therapist at UAB and Special Care Providers.
Sarah Simma is IN! She earned her Bachelor of Science in 2007 from the UAB School of Education in early childhood and elementary education and special education.
Beth Williams is IN! Her hard work earned her a master’s degree from the UAB School of Education in 2006.
Beth is now the department chair of natural sciences at Wallace State Community College.
Wendy Kim is IN! She earned not one but two degrees during her time at UAB. In 1995 she got her bachelor’s degree in elementary education and her master’s degree in education in 1997, both from the UAB School of Education.
Angela Bennett is IN! She got her B.S. from UAB’s College of Arts and Sciences in 2004, and her MAEd in Secondary Science Education in 2006 from the UAB School of Education.
The PUTMANS are ALL IN – with 8 different degrees, certificates and important positions at and from UAB among all four of them! The Putmans are Ever Faithful and Ever Loyal to the Green and Gold from 1972 – 2020 and beyond.
Dennis Putman was Co-Head of the UAB Campus Ministry Program at UAB from 1969 t0 1972. He was Ombudsman for University College, representing Vice-President George W. Campbell at University College (1972 – 1979). He earned his M.A. in Guidance and Counseling from UAB in 1975. He was Founder and President of Human Resources Developers, Inc. from 1980 to 1984 and is a retired State of Alabama Disability Determination examiner.
His wife Jane Mobley Putman earned her B.S. in Elementary Education in 1977, a master’s in Special Education in 1979. She is now a retired teacher with the Birmingham City School System.
Their son Michael Putman earned a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering in 2004 at UAB and completed medical school at the UAB School of Medicine in 2010. He is now a family physician at Seale Harris Clinic in downtown Birmingham, Alabama.
Michael’s wife Olivia Dansby Putman earned a B.S. in Biology in 2007 at UAB (while serving on numerous advocacy committees, UAB Ambassador, Alpha Omicron Pi sorority, and Miss UAB Homecoming Finalist). She recently earned her Executive Master of Science in Healthcare Administration Degree at UAB in 2020 and currently works at the UAB Hospital as a Clinical Pharmacist in Bone Marrow Transplant, Hematology, Oncology and Trauma Burn.
