CaRES Support Acknowledgment on Publications and Posters; and on your C.V. or Biographical Sketch
To maintain funding from the National Cancer Institute, CaRES faculty and staff members gather program evaluation data to verify that ourstudent interns undertake important and worthwhile cancer research projects. One of the primary sorts of evaluation data we collect are citations of publications, oral presentations, and poster presentations relating to CaRESresearch. Whenever CaRES research is published in a peer-reviewed journal or is presented at the podium or as a poster at a professional conference, CaRES is favorably publicized, and the NCI can see the fruits of its investment in our training grant.
It is our goal that each student is first author (if appropriate) or is otherwise included in the authorship, of at least one paper relating to his or her research. To assist us in identifying CaRES publications, abstracts, and posters, please acknowledge your CaRES support.
Acknowledgments are “searchable” by our NCI training grant number 5R25CA076023.
We suggest that you acknowledge CaRES in the manner required by the journal in which you publish, or as directed by the professional organization that sponsored the conference where you presented your research. Here are a few possible formats for the acknowledgment:

Also, we suggest that you add a line item about your CaRES support to your curriculum vitae (C.V.) or Biographical Sketch . . . an impressive addition this will be! You may word your line item as follows, or format it for consistency with the format of your C.V. or Biographical Sketch:
Student Intern of Dr. XY (preceptor name) for the project (“Project name”), supported by the Cancer Research Experiences for Students (CaRES) 5R25CA076023 cancer research education training program, funded by the National Cancer Institute, University of Alabama at Birmingham, Summer [or specify the months] 2021.
