Infection Control Assessment and Response (ICAR) tools are used to systematically assess a healthcare facility’s infection prevention and control (IPC) practices and guide quality improvement activities (e.g., by addressing identified gaps). Developed by the CDC, Infection Preventionists with the Alabama Long-Term Care Strike Team are trained to conduct free consultations for nursing homes and long-term care facilities in Alabama. Based on the results of the ICAR, a feedback report is developed specifically for each facility.
Results of the ICAR are not used for or shared with the licensing branch of the Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH), but shared with the CDC through RedCap to identify training and resource needs to be addressed by ADPH and the LTC Strike Team.
