Taril Slater is IN! He received his bachelor’s degree from the School of Education in 2010 and returned to UAB to earn his Master of Education in 2014.
Kimberly Robinson is IN! She earned a Bachelor of Arts from the College of Arts and Sciences in 1997 before coming back to UAB and obtaining her Bachelor of Science in social work in 2010.
Julie McCormick is IN! She graduated from the UAB School of Education in 2010 with a bachelor’s degree in early elementary and elementary education.
Paul Linsky is IN! In 2005, Paul earned his B.S. in chemistry from the UAB College of Arts and Sciences and then his M.D. from the UAB School of Medicine in 2010. He is now a thoracic surgeon at the Medical College of Wisconsin.
Cori Johnson is IN! She graduated from UAB in 2010 with a B.S., 2014 with an M.S., and 2017 with a DNP! Cori is now a board-certified nurse practitioner and is passing along her education to future nurses as an assistant professor of nursing here at UAB.
Bryan Combs is IN! Bryan is a three-time graduate of the UAB School of Nursing! He earned his MSN as a clinical nurse leader in 2010, MSN as a family nurse practitioner in 2012, and his Ph.D. in 2019. Dr. Combs has been a faculty member at the UAB School of Nursing since 2013 and is currently the director of the nurse practitioner pathways.
Judson Colburn is IN! Judson graduated in 2010 from the School of Nursing and is the Director of Nursing for Pediatrics at the Alaska Native Medical Center in Anchorage Alaska.
The PUTMANS are ALL IN – with 8 different degrees, certificates and important positions at and from UAB among all four of them! The Putmans are Ever Faithful and Ever Loyal to the Green and Gold from 1972 – 2020 and beyond.
Dennis Putman was Co-Head of the UAB Campus Ministry Program at UAB from 1969 t0 1972. He was Ombudsman for University College, representing Vice-President George W. Campbell at University College (1972 – 1979). He earned his M.A. in Guidance and Counseling from UAB in 1975. He was Founder and President of Human Resources Developers, Inc. from 1980 to 1984 and is a retired State of Alabama Disability Determination examiner.
His wife Jane Mobley Putman earned her B.S. in Elementary Education in 1977, a master’s in Special Education in 1979. She is now a retired teacher with the Birmingham City School System.
Their son Michael Putman earned a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering in 2004 at UAB and completed medical school at the UAB School of Medicine in 2010. He is now a family physician at Seale Harris Clinic in downtown Birmingham, Alabama.
Michael’s wife Olivia Dansby Putman earned a B.S. in Biology in 2007 at UAB (while serving on numerous advocacy committees, UAB Ambassador, Alpha Omicron Pi sorority, and Miss UAB Homecoming Finalist). She recently earned her Executive Master of Science in Healthcare Administration Degree at UAB in 2020 and currently works at the UAB Hospital as a Clinical Pharmacist in Bone Marrow Transplant, Hematology, Oncology and Trauma Burn.
Chris Boatwright is IN! Chris graduated in 2010 with a B.S. in Accounting and pursued a career in commercial real estate funding. He is currently an Asset Manager working with Grandbridge Real Estate Capital.
Tonya Breaux-Shropshire is IN! Dr. Tonya Breaux-Shropshire is a Clinical Scientist specializing in Hypertension Research and a Certified Family Nurse Practitioner at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She also works at the Women’s Infant Center and hosts the Mother Baby Daddy Podcast. Additionally, Dr. Breaux-Shropshire hosts the Hypertension Resistant to Treatment Podcast. A former postdoctoral scholar in the School of Medicine and a VA Quality Scholar, she led critical improvements in hypertension management metrics in primary care clinics. She was also the lead coordinator for the SPRINT Study, the landmark trial that influenced the 2017 hypertension guidelines. Dr. Breaux-Shropshire was the first to study home blood pressure monitoring and medication adherence at UAB. Her doctoral nursing project was entitled “Use of Automated Office Blood Pressure Monitoring.”
