Welcome to UAB Hospital Medicine Education! UAB Hospital has a storied academic history, and thanks to the efforts of giants from our past, UAB stands at the forefront of medical education today. Hospital Medicine at UAB aims to continue the tradition of providing unsurpassed training to our students, residents, and fellows.
UAB Hospital Medicine serves as the leader of inpatient medicine at UAB and excels in the essential aspects of contemporary hospital medicine: high-quality, evidence-based care; procedural and consultative medicine; integrated practice models; throughput efficiency; and MD-APP collaborative practice. We strive to instill these measures in our trainees while providing compassionate care to a diverse patient population – all within a learning environment that fosters inclusivity, diversity, and wellness.
UAB Hospital Medicine offers rotations to nurse practitioner, physician assistant, and medical students; we also train both internal medicine and family medicine residents; and we have developed fellowships for Global Health and Quality and Administration.
A strong foundation in inpatient internal medicine is critical for nearly all fields of medicine. We strive to help you build that foundation and guide you to achieve your career goals, whatever they may be.
Fellowships
UAB Hospital Medicine Gorgas Global Health Fellowship
The fellowship is a two year program that starts in July, ends in June and includes the following rotations: Ultrasound Course, Procedure Course, Wound Care Course, Spanish Immersion Course in Nicaragua, Tropical Medicine Course at the Gorgas Institute of Tropical Medicine in Peru, Harvard Humanitarian Course in Boston, tropical medicine rotations in Zambia, Panama, Australia, and Singapore. In addition, you will be working as part of the UAB Hospitalist group while in the U.S., where you will have the opportunity to hone your ultrasound skills, work as a proceduralist, and practice medicine in different units of a large academic hospital.
UAB Hospital Medicine Quality and Administrative Fellowship (this fellowship is currently suspended until further notice)
Interested in mastering the art of QI and learning about the inner workings of hospital administration and operations all while obtaining a Master’s degree? Look no further than the Hospital Medicine Quality and Administrative Fellowship at UAB. You will maintain clinical and procedural expertise while working on a busy inpatient Internal Medicine service. With non-clinical time you will complete didactic and Master’s requirements, design and participate in service and institutional QI projects, serve on a variety of hospital committees, and work within the executive offices. Mentoring by leadership and quality faculty will ensure your success during the fellowship and in your career goals as an emerging leader and innovator going forward.
