Gorgas Diploma Course:

Academic Component:

  • 9 weeks in Peru attending the Gorgas Diploma course.
  • Daily lectures (M-F) at the Alexander von Humboldt Tropical Medicine Institute in Lima, with one week of teaching in Cusco, and one week in Iquitos.

Clinical Component:

  • Afternoon rounds at multiple locations including Cayetano Heredia Hospital, Arzobispo Loayza Hospital, Children’s Hospital in Lima, Hospital Regional in Cusco, Hospital Regional de la Amazonia in Iquitos and outpatient clinics.

Academic Component:

  • 200 hours of Spanish tutoring: Fellows go from basic level Spanish to intermediate level
  • 15 lectures given by our fellows and faculty to the Nicaraguan medical students about basic internal medicine

Clinical Component:

  • Rounding in Clinica Amos and CHOSEN Eye Hospital

Academic Component:

  • Full Spanish immersion
  • Fellows participate in morning reports with residents/medical students

Clinical Component:

  • 4 Weeks of Tropical Medicine / Internal Medicine rotations in Hospital Santo Tomas

Academic Component:

  • 15 lectures given by our fellows and faculty to the residents and ID fellows.
  • Zoom morning report with Zambia and USA.

Clinical Component:

  • 4 Weeks of tropical medicine rotations at University Hospital in Lusaka, Zambia.

Academic component:

  • Fellows will receive teaching from local clinicians at each site. 

Clinical component:

  • 4-6 weeks in India. Fellows will divide their time between two unique training sites where the time will be divided between inpatient units and outpatient clinics
    • Christian Medical College in Vellore
    • Symbiosis International University in Pune.

Fellows will spend 4-6 weeks in Cairns, Australia. They will divide their time into several local sites. 

Academic component:

  • Fellows will follow an organized curriculum created by the rotation director on-site which includes some opportunities to learn about the local culture. 

Clinical Component:

  • 4-6 weeks in Cairns, Australia. Fellows will divide their time into several local sites spending the majority of their time working in Cairns Hospital with the ID team and the Tropical Public Health Services which is comprised of hospitals and clinics.
  • The areas of focus at this site will be on marine medicine, envenomation, and toxicology.
