Cancer Biology Theme (4th Year Ph.D. student)

Dominique C Hinshaw earned her undergraduate degrees at Auburn University in Microbiology and Philosophy in 2017. Later that same year, she joined the Cancer Biology theme in the Graduate Biomedical Sciences program at the University of Alabama at Birmingham to pursue her Ph.D. She joined Dr. Shevde-Samant’s laboratory in 2018 and her thesis work focuses on understanding the role of Hedgehog signaling in the tumor microenvironment of breast cancer. In particular, she is interested in elucidating the role of Hedgehog signaling in sculpting immune components towards a suppressive phenotype within the tumor microenvironment and at the metastatic niche. During her free time, she enjoys going on hikes with her dogs, making candles, reading, and trying new dessert places in the Birmingham area. Email:
