TL1 Scholars have been hard at work this quarter—earning awards, presenting at national conferences, and pushing forward exciting research. Below are a few recent highlights from our TL1 Scholars.

Rebecca Horowitz, Tulane

Finalist: APS Renal Section Predoctoral Excellence in Research Award

Winner: Best oral presentation at LSUHSC x Tulane American Physician Scientists Association (APSA) Research Day.

Awarded the Nathan Solomon & Irene Oransky-Solomon Medical Student Award – First Place at the Southern Regional Meeting, February 2025

Tha Luong, UAB

Received the George M. O’Brien Kidney Resource Alliance (OKRA) travel award on March 6, 2025. 

Udeme Ekrikpo, PhD, UAB

Presented “Platelet Count Trajectory as a Risk Factor for Mortality in Critically Ill Adults with AKI Receiving Continuous Renal Replacement Theory” at the AKI-CRRT conference in San Diego.

Maggie Jones-Carr, MD, UAB

Dr. Jones-Carr had one abstract accepted as an oral presentation to the World Transplant Congress, as well as two abstracts to be presented as posters and a paper currently in revisions.
