KUH PRIME Hosts Inaugural Symposium in Birmingham, AL

by Kelsi Hancock | Feb 3, 2025 | KUHmmunity Highlights

On January 16–17, 2025, KUH PRIME held its first annual symposium in Birmingham, AL, bringing together researchers, trainees, and experts for two days of collaboration and learning.

The symposium kicked off with the Manuscript and Networking Editors Review Session (MaNnERs), featuring a panel of experienced editors: Dr. David Pollock (Function), Dr. Heddwen Brooks (AJP Renal), Dr. Alison Kriegel (Physiological Genomics), and Dr. Chris England (APS Journals). This session provided valuable insights into the publication process and strategies for successful manuscript submissions.

Following MaNnERs, Dr. Opeyemi Olabisi (Duke University) delivered a keynote titled “APOL1 Kidney Disease: From Bench to the Community.” The day continued with research presentations from TL1 trainees, a poster session, and professional development and networking discussion tables covering key topics in career growth.

The symposium concluded on January 17 with a keynote from Dr. Kristina Penniston (University of Wisconsin), who presented “Catalyzing Interdisciplinary Research Connections and Building Collaborative Research Capacity.” The final sessions featured discussions on career pathways, mentoring strategies, and additional TL1 trainee research presentations.

Stay tuned for details on our 2026 symposium at Tulane University in New Orleans!
