Steve Mitchell is IN! This Blazer All-American’s jersey is retired in the rafters of Bartow Arena, and now he has a home in your new National Alumni Society as well. Steve uses the lessons he learned from Coach Gene Bartow as a student at UAB and passes that wisdom on to today’s youth as the athletic director at Altamont. As Blazers, we’ve always been proud of Steve – now we’re proud to have him as a part of our Alumni family, 150,000 strong.
The Craigs are IN—with seven degrees from UAB between them! Skip, Mark, Jennifer, and Emily take the meaning of UAB Family to an entirely different level. Skip earned his M.B.A. from UAB in 1990, and his son, Mark, earned a B.S. in Business in 2005 (while serving as president of Gang Green) and an M.B.A. in 2012. Emily earned her B.S. in Education in 2011 and an M.P.A. from UAB in 2015. Mark’s wife, Jennifer, earned her B.S. from the College of Arts and Sciences in 2009 and became the first Doctor Craig when she earner her O.D. from the School of Optometry in 2013. Dr. Jennifer Breland is IN! Judge Lee Tucker is IN! You’re in good company with this former National Alumni Society president and Walker County probate judge. As an active alum, this 1978 education grad has represented our Blazer family as an attorney and on the bench. Luke Brasher is IN! This redshirt senior from Pell City dominates on the football field and in the classroom. Luke saw action as a linebacker in all 14 games of UAB Football’s 2019 season. This Blazer athletics standout just graduated with a degree in kinesiology and is moving on to physical therapy school. Just like every UAB alum, his enrollment in the NAS is free and automatic—From Here On IN.
Jessica Davis is IN! Jessica graduated from the School of Education in 2013 with a Bachelor of Science.
Alice Laurendine is IN! Alice earned her Master of Education from UAB in 1979 and went on to serve as the principal of Vestavia Hills High School for many years. She now volunteers at Samford University Hope Foundation for Character Education and serves on the Samford Board of Overseers.
Liz Gunter is IN! She graduated in 2003 with a master’s degree in community agency counseling. Now, you can find her working at the UAB Employee Assistance and Counseling Center.
Taril Slater is IN! He received his bachelor’s degree from the School of Education in 2010 and returned to UAB to earn his Master of Education in 2014.
Shamar Smiley is IN! She is using her bachelor’s degree in early childhood education to teach future generations of Blazers.
Kimberly Johnson is IN! She received her educational specialist degree in 2019.
Holly Dutton Kendrick is IN! She earned her MACN from the UAB School of Education in 2004 and is currently a nurse practitioner.
