Writing for Memorandum

Are you an English Major or English Minor looking to get published? Got something to say to other aspiring professional writers?

Consider joining the PW Club and get published in Memorandum, UAB’s Professional Writing magazine.

Interested?

MEMORANDUM is a student-run and student-produced magazine. It is the official publication for UAB’s Professional Writing undergraduate concentration and UAB’s MA program in Rhetoric and Composition. As such, we are not currently looking for creative writing pieces or academic essays you may have written as part of your course work. Instead, we are looking for 500 – 1200 word articles that address the following questions:

  • What is Professional Writing?
  • How can someone prepare for a profession in professional writing?
  • What do working professionals do as part of their jobs?

Although we will consider articles that explore any aspect of professional and/or technical communication, here are a few topics that might help you brainstorm an idea:

  • If you have a friend who graduated from UAB with a concentration in Professional Writing, where are they currently working and what type of work do they do?
  • How would minoring in Professional Writing help someone on a different career path?
  • What types of professional writing opportunities are available to students in Birmingham and the surrounding areas?
  • What types of communication technologies should a professional or technical writer become familiar with before they graduate?
  • What courses outside of the English department should a professional writing student take?

Let us know who you are and how to get in touch.

Please Note: Memorandum does not publish creative fiction.
