Regional Autism Network at UAB
The Regional Autism Network (RAN) was established by legislative action under the direction of the Alabama Interagency Autism Coordinating Council (AIACC). RAN consists of 5 University-based programs located at UAB, Auburn University, the University of South Alabama, the University of Alabama at Huntsville (UAH) and the University of Alabama. The RAN is charged with the task of providing resources and training for persons of all ages in the state of Alabama who have Autism Spectrum Disorder. The charges of the UAB RAN align with the goals of the LEND and UCEDD programs. The UAB RAN is staffed by a Director, Family Navigator, and program and student assistants to meet the needs of the community by drawing on the expertise available at the CEDD, Civitan-Sparks Clinics, and across the UAB campus and surrounding community.
UAB RAN Strives to
- Listen to families to understand their unique situations and needs
- Create bridges and connections between families and providers
- Guide providers who serve families with autistic family members and/or other intellectual/developmental disabilities
- Advocate in the community for a more inclusive and understanding society for ALL
Who We Serve
The Regional Autism Network at UAB serves community members from Region V who have questions, concerns or resource needs regarding themselves, a family member, friend, client, patient, or student with diagnosed or suspected Autism Spectrum Disorder. Counties in Region V include:
- Blount
- Calhoun
- Chilton
- Clay
- Cleburne
- Coosa
- Jefferson
- Randolph
- Shelby
- St. Clair
- Talladega
What We Do
- Offer monthly Community Education Workshops and other opportunities for training and consultation to caregivers and professionals focused on topics important to stakeholders in our region
- Provide community members with general information about autism
- Guide callers to resources available to meet individualized needs
- Assist with problem-solving for individuals, families, and professionals
- Provide information about best practice standards developed and endorsed by the AIACC
- Identify and promote development of programs to benefit individuals with autism spectrum disorder, their care providers, and educators

The UAB Regional Autism Network (RAN) is recruiting individuals and family members with a connection to Autism to serve on our Constituency Board. Board responsibilities include:
- Being a voice on policies, priorities, and activities to the UAB RAN
- Participating in the annual UAB RAN Network evaluation report to the Alabama Interagency Autism Coordinating Council
- Attending the annual RAN Conference to facilitate coordination, networking, cross-training, and feedback among the staffs and constituency boards of the Network
- Meeting quarterly with the staff of the UAB RAN
- Committing to a term of 3 years
