The University of Alabama at Birmingham held the inaugural Translational Bioinformatics Mini-Symposium on May 3, 2017 at the Lister Hill Library.
The mini-symposium, broken into two sessions, was sponsored by the UAB Multidisciplinary Clinical Research Center (MCRC), the UAB Informatics Institute, the UAB Comprehensive Arthritis, Musculoskeletal, Bone and Autoimmunity Center, Center for Clinical and Translational Sciences, and the UAB Division of Clinical Immunology and Rheumatology.
The first session, hosted by Xiangqin Chi, Ph.D., associate professor of Biostatistics, included presentations from Alex Rosenberg, Ph.D., Zechen Chong, Ph.D., Min Gao, Ph.D., and Jake Chen, Ph.D.
The panel discussion, “How to Engage Bioinformaticians for Omics Analysis?” was moderated by David Crossman, Ph.D., assistant professor of the Department of Genetics and director of bioinformatics at the Heflin Center for Genomic Science Core Laboratories.
Jake Chen, Ph.D., Professor and Chief Bioinformatics Officer, hosted the second session of the symposium, with presentations from Xiangqin Chi, Ph.D., Merry-Lynn McDonald, Ph.D., Malay Basu, Ph.D., and Stephen Barnes, Ph.D.
The second panel discussion, “How to Benefit from Bioinformatics for Translational Biomedical Research,” was moderated by Elliot Lefkowitz, Ph.D., professor of Microbiology.
Closing remarks were provided by S. Louis Bridges, Jr., M.D., Ph.D.
