2025 Infection Prevention Bootcamp for Nursing Homes and Long-Term Care Facilities

The Alabama Regional Center for Infection Prevention and Control Training and Technical Assistance Center is hosting an Infection Prevention Bootcamp for Nursing Homes and Long-Term Care Facilities. This is an in-person boot camp that will be held over the course of two days. Open to anyone working in or with infection prevention and control programs in nursing homes or long-term care facilities across the state of Alabama.

Date: February 26 (9:45 AM – 4:30 PM CST) and February 27 (8:00 AM – 2:30 PM CST)

Location: Hyatt Regency Birmingham – The Wynfrey Hotel; 1000 Riverchase Galleria, Birmingham, AL 35244

Parking is free if you park in the mall parking lot to the left of the hotel. You can walk to the parking deck and take the elevator up to the hotel.

A.C. Burke, MA, CIC, RB Health Partners, Inc.

A.C. Burke has been working with RB Health Partners, Inc. since 2016 and has over 25 years of experience working in public health and healthcare. A.C. worked for the Florida Department of Health for 15 years; 5 of those years she served as the Healthcare-associated Infection Prevention Program Manager. She later was the Director of Infection Prevention for Mayo Clinic Florida.

In her current role, she consults with long-term care facilities on infection prevention and control policies, procedures, and practices, and provides training to nursing homes and at conferences, including the 17-hour Nursing Home Infection Prevention Program (NIPP) Nipping Infections in the Bud. NIPP was created to meet the CMS infection prevention training required for a facility team member to be recognized as the designated Infection Prevention Control Official (IPCO). A.C. is nationally recognized in her field and is the primary author of this program. A.C. holds a master’s degree in health management and is nationally Board Certified in Infection Control (CIC) by the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology, Inc. She is currently the chair of Florida Health Care Association’s Infection Prevention Council which was created to support Florida’s nursing homes in building and sustaining infection prevention and antibiotic stewardship programs that meet national standards. She works with clients to understand and implement national guidelines and best practices and supports program implementation by creating and delivering education materials, tools, and training.

Michael Arther, NHA, MCA Consulting, LLC & MCA Safety Services, LLC

Michael is the Owner of MCA Consulting, LLC and MCA Safety Services, LLC. He is a dedicated professional with an extensive background in healthcare, specializing in cost-effective solutions. As the Owner of MCA Consulting, LLC and MCA Safety Services, LLC, he has spent over 20 years as a trusted consultant partner for long-term care owners, operators, and affiliates.

With a strong commitment to enhancing healthcare safety, Michael excels in incident management programs, guiding health care employers towards achieving OSHA and Life Safety compliance. He is also adept at refining workers’ compensation management programs to minimize risk, reduce expenses, and protect both staff and patients.

Michael’s expertise and dedication to healthcare extend beyond his consulting roles. He serves as Chair of the ANHA Life Safety Committee, showcasing his leadership in promoting safety and compliance within the healthcare sector. His educational background includes a B.S. in Occupational Safety and Health Administration from Jacksonville State University.

Additionally, Michael is a licensed nursing home administrator in Alabama, boasting over 25 years of invaluable experience in loss and cost control. This unique combination of skills and qualifications makes him an invaluable asset to the healthcare community and positions him as a trusted advisor for all healthcare-related safety, compliance, and cost control matters.

Elizabeth Sobczyk, MSW, MPH, Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medical Association

Elizabeth Sobczyk is the Associate Executive Director at the Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medical Association. She has directed a CDC cooperative agreement on improving immunization rates in long-term care for the last 3.5 years and has worked in the immunization community for 20 years. Out of all of her family, the dog is the easiest one to vaccinate so she highly empathizes with those trying to address vaccine hesitancy.

Pat Lair, RD, Alabama Department of Public Health

Pat Lair has worked as a Long Term Care Licensure & Certification Surveyor in the Bureau of Health Provider Standards of the Alabama Department of Public Health for 20 years. Currently working part-time as a Retired State Employee. She also works part time as a Registered Dietitian with Chambliss Trials, counseling research subjects on healthy food choices and activity. Pat has experience working as a dietary director, clinical nutrition manager, and registered dietitian in a variety of settings throughout her career.
