Abigail Brooks competed for one of the predoctoral spots in the institutional KUH PRIME TL1 that Nephrology holds and received the predoctoral fellowship. The goal of the grant is to train graduate students in kidney research.

AMC21 scholar Eddie-Williams Owiredu won award at the 2023 Vaccine Lecture and Symposium
Eddie won the top poster presentation in the senior trainee category at the 2023 Vaccine Lecture and Symposium. The event was held at the UAB Alys Stephens Center on October 11, 2023.

UAB Immunology Labs to Test COVID-19 Vaccine Candidate
Several UAB labs will collaborate with biopharmaceutical company Altimmune, Inc. to explore the immune response of an intranasal COVID-19 vaccine candidate. This data, gathered from six UAB labs in the Department of Microbiology, Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine, and the Division of Clinical Immunology and Rheumatology, proceeds progression of the candidate into a Phase I clinical trial. A reception honoring the new AMC21 scholars was held February 26, 2020. The incoming scholars were selected from the entering Graduate Biomedical Sciences class of 2019-2020 for their academic excellence and prior research accomplishments.
