The study, led by Dr. Konkle-Parker (UAB-UMMC  MWCCS site PI), explored associations between population density and clinical outcomes of women living with HIV. In the Southern MWCCS sites, women living in areas with less people reported a higher degree of internalized HIV stigma and perceived more discrimination than those who lived in more densely populated areas. Areas less densely populated generally reported higher incomes, higher education and higher employment rates, which were associated with higher CD4 counts and a higher proportion of women living with HIV that had undetectable viral loads.
