The GECO study is aimed at helping us understand the genetic and environmental factors that may contribute to better cognitive outcomes after treatment for a pediatric brain tumor. This study will examine genetic predispositions and environmental resources that may interact with how a person responds to current treatment and recovery from the lifesaving chemoradiation treatments. The GECO study is an important first step in identifying factors that may help us improve the quality of life of children recovering from cancer treatment.
Participation in the study will include the completion of commonly used cognitive tests to measure attention, memory, and problem-solving skills. Questionnaires will be used to gather information on mood, sleep, quality of life and more. Participants will also be asked to give a small blood sample to help us examine genetic markers in the blood.
Youth and young adults without a history of cancer are also invited to participate in this study to help us better understand these same factors in peers of survivors. If you are interested in participating in our study, contact us here!
