The C-READY program aims to provide youth with the skills necessary to be successful in their transition to functional independence.

The C-READY program consists of 8 individual sessions with the youth and their therapist. Sessions are scheduled twice per week over 4 weeks, with days and times based on the family’s availability. Sessions are conducted either in person at Children’s of Alabama Hospital or using telehealth/ video conferencing from the comfort of the youth’s home. During these one-on-one sessions, therapists assist youth in reaching their specific goals by teaching various cognitive strategies and goal-setting skills. The program aims to help youth gain skills necessary for medical care, social skills, home living, and school independence. At the end of the program, a written report containing resources and recommendations is provided to the family.

Our current research study includes some thinking and problem-solving tests, a brain scan (MRI), questionnaires, and participation in the C-READY program. We are currently enrolling youth ages 9 to 18 with sickle cell disease or a history of cancer. If you are interested in learning more or participating in our study, please Contact Us.
