Major research interest includes liver transplantation, minimally invasive hepatic surgery, surgical management of portal hypertension, surgical management of polycystic liver disease, comprehensive management of benign and malignant hepatobiliary tumors, including hepatocellular carcinoma and cholangiocarcinoma

Biography

Robert M. Cannon, M.D., is an associate professor in the Division of Transplantation, specializing in liver transplantation and hepatobiliary surgery.

Dr. Cannon received his M.D. from the Medical College of Georgia in 2008 before completing a residency in general surgery at the University of Louisville in 2015. After graduating from UAB’s abdominal transplant and hepatobiliary surgery fellowship in 2017, Dr. Cannon returned to the University of Louisville to serve as an assistant professor in the Division of Transplantation, prior to being recruited back to UAB where he now joins our faculty in the Department of Surgery.

Dr. Cannon is a member of the American Society of Transplant Surgeons and the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases. His clinical interests include liver transplantation, minimally invasive hepatic surgery, the surgical management of portal hypertension, the surgical management of polycystic liver disease and the comprehensive management of the full spectrum of benign and malignant hepatobiliary tumors, including hepatocellular carcinoma and cholangiocarcinoma.
