November: Dr. Leavenworth was appointed as the UAB SOM Faculty Equity Advisor for the Neurosurgery Department

October 27: Michael Dixon’s paper “Remodeling of the tumor microenvironment via disrupting Blimp1+ effector regulatory T-cells augments response to anti-PD-1 blockade” is accepted in Molecular Cancer (impact factor 27.4) today!

October 22: Lin Luo’s co-first authorship paper “RNF2 ablation reprograms the tumor-immune microenvironment and stimulates durable NK and CD4+T-cell-dependent antitumor immunity” is published in Nature Cancer today!

October 1: Dr. Leavenworth was promoted to Associate Professor. Congrats!

September: Malik Seals was awarded the Fullbright U.S. Student Scholarship and he will perform collaborative multiple sclerosis research with Dr. Stefan M. Gold at Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin until May 2022. Great job, Malik!

June-July: Rishab Samant, a high school student, joined the lab for his 2-month shadowing experience.

June-July: Daniel Lynn, a UAB-CORD Blazing to Biomedical Careers Program (BBC) community college student, joined the lab for his 2 monthly interns.

June: Dr. Leavenworth presented the TFR/EAE story in FOCIS 2021 and received the FOCIS 2021 Research Award.

May: Julia Marie Homola graduated with the BS/MS degree in Multidisciplinary Biomedical Science. Congrats!

May: Dr. Leavenworth presented the TFR/EAE story in AAI 2021 and received the AAI 2021 Early Career Faculty Grant Award.

April 30: Dr. Leavenworth presented our oncolytic virus projects at the OCCC Research seminar.

April 13: Dr. Leavenworth gave a lecture on Epigenetics in Cancer immunology and Immunotherapy in GBS 718.

April 7: Jeffrey Grimes was admitted to candidacy for the Ph.D. degree. Congrats!

March: Dr. Leavenworth started as the Co-Director for the Brain Tumor Research in Progress Meetings.

March: Michael Franks officially joined the lab for his dissertation work. Welcome!

December: Dr. Leavenworth was invited to speak our research at the UAB Program in Immunology Seminar.

September: Dr. Leavenworth started to serve as the Department of Neurosurgery Diversity Liaison.

August: Malik Seals, BS, from the MS Program in Multidisciplinary Biomedical Science started his thesis work in our lab. Welcome!

July: Dr. Leavenworth was invited by the journal Frontiers in Immunology, Section in Cancer Immunity and Immunotherapy, as a Guest Associate Editor to edit the research topic “Immune Cell Lineage Reprogramming in Cancer”.

June 15: The postdoctoral fellow, Sadashib Ghosh, joined the lab. Welcome!

June 1: We received the NIH NIAID R01 grant to study TFR and IgE in EAE/MS! Great News!

May: Wesley Oliver graduated with a BS in Neuroscience with Dean’s List and Presidential Honors. Congrats!
