Course Overview:

The objective of the program is to teach the participants to become an active part of an Occupational Hearing Conservation Program (HCP). Through extensive lectures, workshops and exercises and supervised practicum on related areas of a hearing conservation program, a basic understanding of a comprehensive HCP and audiometric testing is achieved. CAOHC certification/re-certification will be granted upon successful completion of the appropriate course requirements and the passing of the CAOHC standardized written examination.”

Ample time will be allowed to use and evaluate different audiometers and to master basic testing techniques.

 

Program Instructors:

Georgia W. Rhodes, AuD, CCC-A, has over 28 years in the field of audiology and hearing conservation. She has directed an in-house hearing conservation program for a large corporation and served on an ANSI working committee to establish criteria to judge the effectiveness of hearing conservation programs. In addition to being a CAOHC approved course director, Georgia is a clinical audiologist and instructor at the Speech and Hearing Clinic, Auburn University at Montgomery. During the practicum sessions, Dr. Rhodes is assisted by experienced instructors.

Aaron Johnson, AuD, received his B.S. in Speech-Language Pathology and M.S. Degree in Audiology at the University of Montevallo and his Doctorate of Audiology at Salus University. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Audiology.  He is currently Secretary of the Board of Directors of the Alabama Academy of Audiology (ALAA) after serving as a Member at Large last year.  He holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech & Hearing Association and maintains licensure to practice audiology in Alabama and Tennessee.

Lynnette Bardolf, PhD, graduated with her B.S. and M.S. degrees in Audiology and Speech Pathology from the Florida State University, and with her Ph.D. in Audiology from the University of Florida.  Dr. Bardolf spent almost 25 years serving in the Army as a military Audiologist, where she ran several Audiology clinics, was heavily involved in hearing conservation, did Audiology research, and routinely taught CAOHC Courses.  Since retiring, Dr. Bardolf continues to teach CAOHC Courses, treats patients suffering with tinnitus, and volunteers her time as an Audiologist at her local military treatment facility.

Professional Development:

The Deep South Center for Occupational Health & Safety is an approved provider of continuing education units for nurses by the Alabama Board of Nursing (Provider #ABNP0420, expires 12/21/2022) and has awarded 23.0 contact hours for full course participants and 9.0 contact for refresher course participants. The Deep South Center Health & Safety has awarded 2.3 CEUs for full course participants and 0.9 CEUs for refresher course participants.

COURSE INFORMATION

The full course will be administered online using Zoom in conjunction with CAOHC’s requirements. The practicum and exam will also be delivered online. Please make sure you have a laptop or tablet with camera, Zoom installed, stable internet and email access. If you are using your work equipment, please get with your  IT Dept. to make sure you can access all of these.
