Principal Investigator: Drs. Katie Stone and Dan Buysse
Site-PI: Dr. S. Justin Thomas

Description: The “Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Zolpidem/Trazodone for Insomnia in Rural Adults” (COZI) trial, funded by the Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI), is a multi-site comparative effectiveness study examining the impact of online cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I) versus zolpidem or trazodone in rural adults. DIPPER Study

Principal Investigator: Dr. S. Justin Thomas
Co-Investigator: Dr. Courtney Peterson, Dr. Karen Gamble, Dr. Paul Muntner, Dr. Orlando Gutierrez, Dr. Frank Scheer

Description: The “Central and Peripheral Circadian Mechanisms Underlying Non-Dipping Blood Pressure in African American/Black Adults” study is funded by the American Heart Association and seeks to examine central versus peripheral circadian contributions to blood pressure rhythms among normotensive African American/Black adults. In this study, we use a tightly controlled laboratory-based study called a constant routine protocol to directly examine circadian rhythms in humans by analyzing rhythms in melatonin and core body temperature.

Principal Investigator: Dr. Burel Goodin
Co-Investigator: Dr. S. Justin Thomas

Description: The “Impact of Insomnia on Pain, Physical Function, and Inflammation in HIV” study is funded by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) and examines inflammation and mitochondrial damage as mechanisms linking insomnia and pain in people living with HIV.

CRAVESS Study

Principal Investigators: Dr. Karen Cropsey and Dr. Karen Gamble
Co-Investigator: Dr. S. Justin Thomas

Description: The “Circadian and Sleep Mechanisms among Racial Groups for Nicotine Dependence, Craving, and Withdrawal” (CRAVESS) Study, funded by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), examines race and sex differences in sleep and circadian contributions to cigarette smoking and withdrawal.
