General Surgery Resident
VA Quality Scholar
Biography
Hi! I’m Lauren Theiss, and I am a UAB general surgery resident now in my second year of research. I’m originally from Birmingham and have a fierce love for this incredible city. I graduated from Vanderbilt University where I majored in both Spanish and Medicine, Health, and Society. In 2017, I graduated from the UAB School of Medicine and was thrilled to match at UAB for residency. I am very lucky to have benefitted from the incredible mentorship and support of the UAB faculty ever since I was a student. My research focuses on health literacy and surgical disparities experienced by our patients in Alabama. I am also a second year fellow in the VA Quality Scholars Fellowship where I have gained experience with healthcare improvement. My quality improvement work focuses primarily on opioid standardization after surgery. I love checking out new restaurants and bars, traveling, spending time with my dog Jerry, and cooking new recipes for Connie.
