Welcome to Dr. Chu’s Lab
Daniel I. Chu MD MSPH is an NIH-funded colorectal surgeon at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. His lab is focused on identifying, understanding, and reducing health disparities in surgery. His team uses mixed methods, implementation science, and multi-institutional collaborations to achieve these goals. Specific research areas include enhanced recovery programs (ERPs), health literacy-based interventions and patient engagement technologies.
Dr. Chu’s team is also passionate about training the next generation of surgeons and surgical researchers. His team has mentored over 40 trainees since July of 2014 including high school, medical school, and graduate school students in addition to US and international resident/fellow trainees.
