General Surgery Resident

Biography

My name is Nathan English and I am excited and honored to be joining Professor Chu’s lab as an international scholar.. I am from Cape Town, South Africa and obtained my medical degree from the University of Cape Town. After completing my internship at Livingstone Hospital Complex in the Eastern Cape, I returned home and worked in the Division of Paediatric Surgery at Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital and the Department of General Surgery at Paarl Hospital in the Cape Winelands. I am currently a second year resident in General Surgery at the University of Cape Town, Groote Schuur Hospital. As my research fellowship at UAB is only one year, my main focus will be on secondary analysis of the pioneering work done in the Chu Lab on psychosocial determinants of health and its impact on colorectal surgical outcomes. Outside of medicine, I enjoy woodwork, cycling, hiking and spending time with my family, partner and our dog Archie.
