General Surgery Resident
Biography
My name is Burke Smith and I am excited to be joining Dr. Chu’s research lab for two years of research and academic time! I was born and raised locally in Homewood, Alabama and attended the University of Alabama (Roll Tide) for my undergraduate degree in Chemical and Biological Engineering. Following this, I attended the University of Alabama School of Medicine where after graduation I was fortunate to match into the General Surgery Residency Program here at UAB. I have now completed the first two years of my clinical training, and I am looking forward to developing my academic and research interests during these next two years. I will be obtaining an MSPH from the UAB School of Public Health, as well as conducting research on psychosocial determinants of health and their relationship with surgical outcomes. Outside of medicine, I love running, working out, going to Smith Lake, cheering for Alabama athletics, and being a husband and father!
