R01 ERP

In this study, we will aim to improve surgical care and reduce surgical disparities by adapting enhanced recovery programs (ERPs) for low health literacy patients. To do this, we will first identify the health literacy-sensitive components of ERPs. Second, we will identify the health literacy needs of providers and ERP team members. Finally, we will develop and pilot an interactive response platform to deliver a novel implementation strategy, VISACT: engage patients with VISuAl aids, Coach providers in communication, and Train organizations in health literacy. Our interactive response platform is called SEAHL (Surgical Equity Advanced through Health Literacy).

SEAHL

As part of our initiative to adapt enhanced recovery programs for low health literacy patients, we are developing an interactive response platform called SEAHL (Surgical Equity Advanced through Health Literacy). This will be a platform for both providers and patients to obtain health literacy-sensitive education and training materials related to surgery.
