In 1987, the Alabama State Board of Education initiated oversight of the Regional Inservice Centers. This oversight includes specific Accountability Standards in the areas of fiscal, government, and programmatic responsibilities. State law (Act 87-714) mandates that each in-service center’s operational schedule, programming, and budget allocations be subject to the authority and oversight of an independent governing board. The governing board members represent each school system served as well as the center’s affiliated higher education institution and the Alabama State Department of Education.
