The Laboratory of Integrative ‘Omics at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) has an opening for a post-doctoral fellow. The ideal applicant has a PhD in genetic epidemiology, biostatistics, bioinformatics or genetics and can program in R and at least one scripting language such as Python. Mastery of the English language including strong writing and public speaking skills is required.

Current projects include research using data from several established cohorts including COPD Etiology of Low-Lean muscle (CCELL), the Million Veteran Project (MVP) and the Trans-Omics for Precision Medicine Initiative (TOPMed) among others. Opportunities for method development projects are also available. This work is expected to yield high impact publications. Trainees are also encouraged to develop their own projects enabling development of an independent research career.

The Laboratory of Integrative ‘Omics in the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Medicine, Department of Medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) has an opening for a bioinformatics II position. The ideal applicant has a PhD or MS degree in bioinformatics, computer science or a related field with strong programming skills in Linux, R and least one scripting language such a Python. The successful applicant will execute analyses of ‘omics data from cohorts including the Cachexia in COPD Etiology of Low-Lean muscle (CCELL), the Million Veteran Project (MVP) and the Trans-Omics for Precision Medicine Initiative (TOPMed) among others. The employee will execute integrative ‘omics analyses, build and maintain analysis pipelines, present research at conferences, survey the literature for new cutting-edge analysis methods, attend lab meetings as well as provide advice for trainees as they complete their research objectives.

The ideal applicant has a PhD or MS degree in bioinformatics, computer science or a related field with strong programming skills in Linux, R and at least one scripting language such a Python. Candidates with BS degrees and 4 years’ experience will also be considered. The successful candidate will primarily be responsible for developing and implementing analysis pipelines for genomics data. Strong mastery of English is required.
