for Patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease

This study is conducted by The Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation in collaboration with
the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB).

 

This study will identify and address barriers to the medical diagnosis and care of patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). This information will be used to implement community engagement programs with Birmingham-based organizations to raise awareness of IBD and provide education on effective management among local healthcare professionals, potential patients, and caregivers.

Why Should I Join?

Current health care disparities lead to delays in diagnosis and treatment of IBD.

Earlier treatment of IBD leads to better long-term health outcomes.

Addressing IBD care barriers and educating all involved, IBD awareness increases, expediting diagnosis and treatment for future generations.

Who can enroll in this research study?

– Adults 18 years or older diagnosed with IBD
– Parents or caregivers of a child diagnosed with IBD

What You Need to Know

Adult Patients

  • Patient will answer questionnaires about health quality of life, resilience, exposure to adverse childhood experiences, and barriers to seeking IBD care.
  • Questionnaires will only need to be completed once.
  • Patient might be invited to join a small focus group to discuss barriers to IBD care.
  • Patient will be compensated for their time.

Parents / Caregiver

  • Parent/Caregiver will answer questionnaires about their resilience, coping strategies, and barriers in seeking IBD care for child.
  • Child will answer questionnaires about their resilience, adverse experiences, and health quality of life.
  • Questionnaires will only need to be completed once.
  • Parent/Caregiver might be invited to join a small focus group to discuss barriers to IBD care.
  • All participants will be compensated for their time.
