Anastasia joins the Van Meir Lab

Anastasia Holland started, Monday, November 2nd, as a Program Coordinator I for the Office of Lab Research and Dr. Van Meir’s Administrative Assistant. Before coming to UAB, she worked at Auburn University in the International Programs Office both in an administrative role and an advising role. Prior to that she lived in Colorado and Orlando for a few years. In her free time, she has become an avid reader, enjoying fiction books mostly. She also has two cats who she loves and talks about all the time named Khaleesi and Opal. She loves taking them on walks and hikes when it isn’t too hot outside.  Welcome to our team, Anastasia!

Van Meir and Osuka join UAB Neurosurgery

Erwin G. Van Meir, Ph.D., joined the UAB Department of Neurosurgery as a professor on Oct. 1, 2019 and is directing a laboratory in molecular neuro-oncology. He comes from Emory University where he was the founding director of the Laney Graduate School’s Cancer Biology Graduate Program and the leader of the Cancer Cell Biology Research Program at the Winship Cancer Institute.

Working with Dr. Van Meir, Satoru Osuka, M.D., Ph.D., joined the department on Oct 21, 2019 as an assistant professor. His research hopes to understand the cellular and molecular biology of therapeutic resistance in brain tumors. He also comes from Emory University, where he was a postdoctoral fellow.
