Initial Spirometry Workshop
Overview:
The objective of the program is to develop individuals who can perform proper spirometry techniques. Learning proper spirometry technique requires observation, demonstration, and hands-on practice. The basics of respiratory anatomy and physiology, lung volume determinants of respiratory flow and how the environment affects the respiratory system are covered. Participants will be taught the proper techniques for obtaining valid spirometric values as defined by NIOSH including instrumentation and the basis for spirometric measurement, mechanics of data collection, reduction in accordance with the acceptability criteria and the use of predicted values. Recently, the Center’s Spirometry Workshop was updated, evaluated, and approved by NIOSH in an effort to strengthen the utility and effectiveness of the NIOSH Spirometry Training Program.
Ample time will be allowed to practice spirometric techniques and to master spirometry testing.
After successfully completing the examination, participants will be issued a certificate.
This does not imply that the individual is a NIOSH pulmonary function technician but does mean that they have completed a NIOSH approved course.
Who Should Attend:
The course is designed for anyone responsible for testing, monitoring and protecting respiratory health – safety professionals, healthcare providers, industrial hygienists, and occupational health nurses would benefit from attending this workshop.
