Initial Audiometric Course (In-person/BHM)
Course Overview:
The program’s objective is to teach participants to become an active part of an Occupational Hearing Conservation Program (HCP). Through extensive lectures, workshops and exercises and supervised practicum on related areas of a hearing conservation program, a basic understanding of comprehensive HCP and audiometric testing is achieved. CAOHC certification/re-certification will be granted upon successful completion of the appropriate course requirements and the passing of the CAOHC standardized written examination.”
Ample time will be allowed to master basic testing techniques on the audiometer.
Training Location: UAB Ryals Public Health Building, Room TBA.
Course Information:
Day 1 and Day 2 – 8:30am- 5pm
Day 3 (Exam Day)- 8:30-12pm
***You must bring a laptop or tablet with working internet, browser-Firefox, or Google to take the CAOHC online exam.

Registration:
Registration is limited for each class, so early registration is recommended. Tuition for the Audiometric Initial Course is $795, which includes all course materials and CAOHC exam testing fee.

Parking: Parking at UAB will be provided at the adjacent parking deck. Parking instructions for the UAB deck will be included in the confirmation letter you will receive after you have paid for your registration.
Hotel: Several hotel options are available near the UAB Ryals Public Health Building (1665 University Boulevard, Birmingham, AL 35233) to accommodate out-of-town course participants. To find the most suitable accommodations for your needs, we recommend performing a quick Google search using the address as a reference point. This will help you identify hotels within convenient proximity to the venue.
ABN contact hours and CEU’s:
The Deep South Center for Occupational Health & Safety is an approved provider of continuing education units for nurses by the Alabama Board of Nursing (Provider #ABNP0420, expires 12/21/2026) and has awarded 24.0 ABN contact hours and 2.0 CEUs for initial course participants.
Cancellation Policy: No refunds will be issued for registration cancellations less than two weeks before the course.
