For First Responders

COVID-19 Testing for First Responders This document provides a brief overview of COVID-19 testing to inform decision-making for first responders including emergency medical service (EMS), Fire & Rescue, Law Enforcement and 911 telecommunicators.

911.gov Coronavirus/COVID-19 Resources On the frontlines of the healthcare system, telecommunicators and EMS clinicians are often the first to recognize a person potentially infected with the novel coronavirus. Telecommunicators are facing a surge in 911 calls from people who have questions about the virus, think they may have the virus or need other emergency assistance. To help ensure 911 personnel can appropriately and safely serve the public during the evolving pandemic, the National 911 program is working closely with other federal agencies and national associations to provide up-to-date, accurate information.

EMS.gov Coronavirus Resources for EMS As part of the federal response, NHTSA Office of EMS staff are part of the FEMA Healthcare Resiliency Task Force EMS/Prehospital Team and are helping lead a team focused on supporting State, local and tribal EMS and 911 systems. The CDC maintains an up-to-date situational summary and has published guidance documents to help EMS, first responders and other healthcare providers fight the pandemic:
