About the Deep South Biosafety Worker Training Program
Who We Are
The Deep South Biosafety Worker Training Program (WTP) is one of eight institutions funded by the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) to provide infectious disease safety training for a range of high-risk occupations. Headquartered at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, the Deep South Biosafety WTP is a multi-state geographical partnership between the UAB School of Public Health (SOPH), UAB School of Medicine (SOM), the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC), and the Alabama Fire College’s Workplace Safety Training (WST) Program.
What We Do
The Deep South Biosafety WTP provides training to enhance biosafety and infection control procedures for healthcare and public safety workers throughout the Deep South (Alabama, Mississippi, and the Florida panhandle). Integrated training offers information on infection control measures, other worker protection protocols, and practical, hands-on training using personal protective equipment in order to improve the skills and confidence of the workforce in responding to COVID-19, Ebola or other infectious disease threats.
