2024 Request for Applications

We seek applications for an administrative development program geared toward staff from all UAB entities. Developing Emerging Administrative Leaders (DEAL) is a program that takes a multidisciplinary approach in exposing promising UAB staff members to the essential components of administrative and management positions across UAB including human resources, finance, research, education, and clinical. Through the program, participants will have the opportunity for personal development through networking and first-hand experiences with existing administrative leaders from UAB. The overall goals of the program are to develop future administrative leaders while providing an experience that will improve their effectiveness in their current roles.

Program Dates:
The 2nd Wednesday each month, January through October 2024. We expect in-person participation in all sessions. Hold the following dates on your calendar: January 10, February 14, March 13, April 10, May 8, June 12, July 10, August 14, September 11, and October 9. 

Eligibility:

  • Employed by a UAB entity in a staff position
  • In a current position for at least one year by program start date
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience in managing projects, programs and/or employees

Application Process:

  • Complete the application form by November 1, 2023.
  • Supervisor support for time commitment is required. Download form.
  • Participants will be notified by November 23, 2023.

The goals of the program are:

  • Attract, identify position, develop, and advance internal talent for management and leadership roles across UAB.
  • Create a pipeline of future administrative leaders to lead UAB Medicine and UAB clinical and academic units (e.g., service lines, departments, and divisions) across various UAB Schools.
  • Introduce participants to administration at all levels where they will learn the “tricks of the trade” from established administrators and leaders.
  • Connect participants to needed resources, collaborators, and mentors.

The following methods are employed:

  • Ten (10) in-person sessions and online resources and tools (e.g., Canvas)
  • Creation of individual development plans
  • Small and large-group interactions

  • Leadership Development
  • Space & Facilities Planning
