Jillian Ziemanski

Jillian F. Ziemanski, OD, PhD, FAAO is an Assistant Professor at the UAB School of Optometry where she actively researches Sjogren’s syndrome and dry eye disease and serves as a clinical attending in the Ocular Disease Service. She earned her BS in Biology from West Virginia University (2008, summa cum laude), her MS in Vision Science from Ohio State University (2011, summa cum laude), and her OD also from Ohio State University (2012, magna cum laude). She then completed a prestigious residency in Primary Care and Ocular Disease at the San Francisco Veterans Affairs Medical Center, affiliated with the University of California, Berkeley. She also completed her second doctoral degree, a PhD in Vision Science, at UAB in 2020. During the second year of the program, she was named the AOF Merton Flom Ezell Fellow in Leadership.

Lacey Galmon

Lacey Galmon is a Researcher I in Jillian Ziemanski’ s lab. She is a University of Colorado, Colorado Springs graduate. Her undergraduate degree is in biomedical sciences, and she moved from her home state of Colorado to Birmingham in late 2020. During the last year of her undergraduate degree, she conducted research on the physical and chemical components of soil on trial systems and worked to identify the factors leading to environmental degradation in these areas. She has a passion for research and is beyond excited to be doing what she loves with UAB.

Esther Nutifafa Yawa Senanu

OD | Graduate Student Trainee

Esther Nutifafa Senanu, OD, is a PhD student in the lab of Dr. Ziemanski. She earned her Doctor of Optometry degree in 2020 at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Ghana, West Africa. Prior to her coming to the states, she worked briefly as a clinician at an eye facility where she offered comprehensive eye examinations to dry eye patients. She is passionate about exploring more about the immunopathogenesis of dry eye disease among glaucoma patients and those with Sjӧgren’s syndrome.
