9/11 Day of Service 2024
On the 9/11 Day of Service, UAB AmeriCorps Program staff joined forces with our host site Grace Klein Community, a nonprofit focused on addressing food insecurity. Collaborating with teams from AmeriCorps NCCC and FEMA Corps, the volunteers prepared and delivered essential items such as flowers, desserts, hygiene products, and bananas to families in Birmingham. While the other teams delivered items, UAB AmeriCorps staff repackaged bananas, reducing food waste, and prepared meals for volunteers using rescued food. This event highlighted the power of collective service and strengthened community partnerships.
CEO and Congresswoman Site Visit
On October 16th, Congresswoman Terri Sewell and AmeriCorps CEO Michael Smith announced a $1.5 million award to support the UAB AmeriCorps program. Sewell and Smith connected with our AmeriCorps VISTA members, learning firsthand about the impact our members are making in the community. This funding will help us continue to empower service and make a difference!

AmeriCorps Week Proclamation
To kick off AmeriCorps Week, the UAB-Statewide AmeriCorps VISTA Program attended the Proclamation Ceremony at the City Hall Council Chamber to recognize AmeriCorps members and their service throughout the Birmingham Metro Area.
