Eye growth is regulated locally within the eye by an emmetropization mechanism. However, the specifics of this mechanism and the cellular and molecular basis of growth signal generation and transmission remain unknown. We use cellular and molecular, proteomic, and high-resolution imaging approaches to study signaling molecules and signal generation and transmission along the retina-choroid-sclera signaling pathway of emmetropization and myopiagenesis.
