I had the privilege of working in the Saigusa lab from January 2021 to August 2023 as a part-time Student Assistant. My responsibilities included managing the mouse colony and assisting with experiments aligned with the lab’s research objectives. When I’m not immersed in scientific pursuits, I enjoy staying active and listening to music.

I am currently a research associate at the Washington University in St. Louis studying how abnormal macrophage cholesterol metabolism facilitates innate immune-mediated neurodegeneration, leading to chronic pain. In the Saigusa lab, I learned about nutrition and immunology, which has led me to my current career. I remain very grateful to Dr. Saigusa and everyone in the lab.
Jifeng Huang

Jifeng earned a DVM and a MS in Veterinary Anatomic Pathology from Nanjing Agricultural University, a prestigious institute in China. After graduation, She joined Nanjing Immunology and Biochemistry Institute as a research fellow, studying enzyme biochemistry. Two years later she secured a position as a junior faculty in the College of Veterinary Medicine, Nanjing Agricultural University, where she taught Veterinary Anatomic Pathology and its lab course, did research on animal diseases for five years. She came to the US with family and later earned a BSN from UAB. But her passion lies in scientific research. She joined Dr. Saigusa’ s lab in 2017. Her role was involved in managing the lab as well as working on the role of inflammation in the pathogenesis of PKD. Jifeng is now working in the department of Surgery, managing Dr. James George’s lab and the Small Animal Surgery Core, while studying renal lymphatic endothelial cell (LEC) signaling pathways in murine model.
At her leisure time, Jifeng loves hiking in the back country while enjoy the beauty of mother nature.
