We are dedicated to studying stress, resilience, and the psychological well-being of individuals across the lifespan living with chronic illness and their care partners.
The Stress Aging and Resilience (StAR) Research Lab is focused on improving the well-being of individuals living with chronic illnesses and their care partners. Living with a chronic illness, such as dementia or cancer, can be stressful. This stress can negatively impact one’s mental health, physical health, and quality of life. The StAR Lab uses multi-time scale designs and statistical modeling to a) examine inter-and intra-individual variations in mental health outcomes across the disease trajectory, b) identify contextual factors that increase resilience to stress and improve mental health outcomes, and c) test interventions that reduce stress, improve quality of life, and promote healthy aging. A significant focus of the lab is to support the needs of diverse patient populations disproportionately impacted by dementia and cancer, including Hispanics and sexual/gender.
