PrEP4Her is a community-engaged study with the purpose of implementing HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) care into the GYN Continuity clinic as a part of routine women’s healthcare.

Compelling data from almost 800 women across the state of Alabama informs this study, showing that women would prefer to get PrEP from their GYN provider at the doctor’s office. To date, we have met with multiple staff, faculty, trainees, and patients at the GYN continuity clinic to identify tools to support PrEP prescription at the clinic.

PrEP4Her is a multi-component intervention that supports providers and patients in receiving comprehensive, culturally-tailored PrEP services including:

  • Curriculum aids (included in the GYN residency program “Purple Book”)
  • Provider trainings (focused on taking a sexual history and PrEP 101)
  • Case-based educational materials (focused on the keys to providing PrEP services for women)
  • Powerplan (easy access to required labs needed for initial and follow-up PrEP clinical visits)
  • Patient Educational Flyer (provides relevant information about PrEP for patients)
  • PrEP Champion (a consultant that can be emailed if you have any questions or encounter barriers in PrEP provision)
  • PrEP4Her website (provides a comprehensive reservoir for all of our PrEP service delivery tools for GYN providers)
