Dr. Kumar is a kidney transplant nephrologist that specializes in medical evaluation of living kidney donors and care of kidney and pancreas transplant recipients as well as the transplantation of incompatible organs both HLA and ABO and in the care of highly sensitized transplant recipients. Her research interests include access to living kidney donation and solid organ transplants, outcomes in donors after living kidney donation and in recipients of kidney transplant.

Her research interests include complex statistical analysis and modeling of transplant outcomes and behavioral research focused on health disparities.

Dr. Qu’s research interests include patient-centered outcomes research, health disparities, rehabilitation care, quality of care, medication adherence, and shared decision-making. She has published articles in Journal of General Internal Medicine, Academic Medicine, American Journal of Health Behavior, Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology, The Journal of Rheumatology, and American Journal of Transplantation. She has served as a grant reviewer for Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute since 2013.

Dr. Rhiannon Reed is an epidemiologist/clinical data analyst with a focus on long-term care of living kidney donors and organ transplant policy. She has interests in qualitative and mixed methods research, as well as dissemination and implementation science, particularly regarding education efforts to increase organ donation awareness

Major Research Interests

Deirdre Sawinski is Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Perelman School of Medicine in the Renal, Electrolyte and Hypertension Division. She is also the Assistant Medical Director of the Kidney-Pancreas Transplant Program and a practicing transplant nephrologist. Her work focuses on outcomes for renal transplant recipients with chronic viral infections including HIV, HCV, and BK. She is also interested in questions of donor selection (both living and deceased) as well as ways to increase the available organ donor pool.  Dr. Sawinski was awarded an R-21 to study outcomes for patients receiving chronic dialysis who have hepatitis C.
