Madeline Holliday, Researcher III
“Well…I didn’t know the world looked like that!”
Maddie Holliday is a Researcher III in the Lennemann Lab. After graduating from UAB with a Bachelor of Science in Biology in 2018, she joined the lab of Dr. Louis Justement to gain lab experience. Unfortunately, she had to leave the Justement lab during the COVID pandemic, but this allowed her the opportunity to join the Lennemann lab. She has been with the lab since July of 2020 and has helped to establish protocols, train incoming students, and foster a positive lab environment. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband and her dog, crocheting, and reading.

Lochlain Corliss, PhD Student
“I used to think pirates were mythical creatures and I’m still not sure if cavemen are.”
Lochlain is a PhD student in the Microbiology theme. She graduated from Emmanuel University in 2020 with her Bachelor of Science in Biology, where she was a multi-sport student athlete. She joined the Lennemann lab in January of 2021 to work on elucidating the molecular determinants of flavivirus proteases and the role of polyprotein processing in regulation of infection. In her spare time, she enjoys playing intramural sports and hanging out with her two wiener dogs named Sailor and Tyson.

Samaneh Mehri, PhD Student
“Please play those games with yourself.”
Sam is a PhD student in the Biochemistry & Structural Biology theme. She received her Bachelor of Science in Microbiology, then completed her Master of Science in Biochemistry at the University of Windsor in Canada in 2021. She joined the Lennemann Lab in January of 2022, where she is working to understand the mechanism of human astrovirus polyprotein processing. In her free time, she enjoys yoga, shopping, and hanging out with friends.

Brooke Bengert, PhD Student
“Gup.”
Brooke is a PhD student in the Microbiology theme at UAB. She received her Bachelor of Science in Microbiology from Auburn University in 2023. She then came to UAB in the Fall of 2023 and joined the Lennemann Lab in January of 2024. Her current research focuses on understanding the subcellular localizations and functional roles of human astrovirus nonstructural proteins during infection. She has three cats and four frogs and loves cereal, specifically rice krispies.
