The Cardiopulmonary Research Program is a multidisciplinary initiative between the laboratories of Drs. Gregory A. Payne and J. Michael Wells to investigate the interplay of vascular dysfunction and pulmonary disease in various model systems. We aim to understand vascular dysfunction in smoking-induced lung disease, pulmonary hypertension, as well as in comorbid chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and coronary artery disease. This translational research effort combines specialized physiologic and mechanistic techniques to identify potential therapeutic targets to slow disease pathogenesis.
