HEPA Air Purifiers: Frequently Asked Questions
What is a HEPA air purifier?
A HEPA air purifier is one that uses a High-Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filter. Filters that qualify as HEPA are able to trap 99.9% of particles that are 0.3 microns or smaller. There are varying degrees of HEPA; H10-H12 are considered “True HEPA” and H13-H14 are considered medical-grade quality. Our program provides Medify HEPA units with True HEPA H13 filters. Medify units are equipped with HEPA H13 level filters, which can trap 99.9% of harmful particles as small as 0.1 microns, including pollen, pet dander, dust, mold spores, and tobacco smoke.
Are air purifiers effective?
Yes, air purifiers are able to remove airborne pollutants like pollen, dust, bacteria, pet dander, smoke, mold spores, volatile organic compounds, and odors. But each product does have maximum square footage it can handle, so proper sizing will be important to keep in mind for your intended use.
Are air purifiers safe?
Yes, most purifiers are safe to use. The only exception is ozone-producing air purifiers, which can irritate allergies, worsen asthma, and cause chest pain, coughing, and lung damage. All Medify purifiers are HEPA air purifiers, specifically H13 grade HEPA filters, which are ozone-free. Ionic air purifiers are also safe and shouldn’t be confused with ozone air cleaners.
How often should I be cleaning my air purifier?
Depending on how much you’re using your air purifier, it should be cleaned every three to six months. Most filters only last for that amount of time, so you’ll want to replace them when you clean them.
How do I clean my air purifier?
To clean your unit, follow the below steps: 1) Unplug the power cord 2) Wipe down the exterior casing 3) Remove the filter cover 4) Wash the pre-filter (per owner manual instructions) 5) Replace all dirty internal filters 6) Reassemble filters and cover, and plug the power cord back in.
Do the air purifiers have a Warranty?
Yes. There is lifetime coverage on all parts and services for registered products as long as the filters are changed per that unit’s warranty with genuine Medify Air filters. Register your product at https://medifyair.com/pages/warranty.
